Jai Oakland
Jai was born and raised in Hawaii and cared deeply about people, cultures, and the world around him. He was kind, compassionate, and had a sensitive soul. As he grew into a young adult, he struggled to understand why so much unkindness existed, and over time, his light began to dim.
He faced depression and addiction—two powerful forces he battled with a strength most will never fully see. Jai carried more of the world’s pain in his heart than anyone should have to bear, and at 22, he lost his life to that weight. One month before his passing, he made the selfless decision to become an organ donor.
A quote of his has become his legacy: “I believe in love and that love will win one ripple at a time, and I hope the ripples I make create a wave.”
Even in his passing, Jai’s belief in love did not end. Through his gift of organ donation, he saved six lives. His ripple lives on in them—in every heartbeat, every breath, every moment they now get to experience.
Jai’s strength and courage echo in every honest conversation we have about mental health—and in every act of kindness that carries his ripple forward.
With a mother’s endless love,
