The Legacy of George “Dobe” Edward Clement, Jr.
George “Dobe” Edward Clement, Jr. was a man whose life was defined by love, service, family, and giving to others. Born on November 13, 1944, Dobe was a lifelong resident of Plaquemine, Louisiana. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, earning numerous honors for his dedication and service, including the National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Medal, 13th Troop Carrier Squadron Award, and Special Operations Group Medal. In addition to his time as a United States Air Force, he served in his local American Legion, Post 167, as adjutant for many years. He also devoted his time and service to the St. John Catholic Church, in Plaquemine Louisiana, as usher and served in helping at the food bank.
But perhaps Dobe’s greatest legacy was not found in the medals he earned, or the service he did in the Air Force or his local community but in the lives he touched and the love he gave so freely.
Dobe was a devoted husband of 55 years to his wife, Kathleen, a loving Husband, Brother, Uncle, Godfather, Brother-in-law, and Friend whose love extended to others through his many years of giving to those around him.
On July 15, 2026, at the age of 81, Dobe passed away at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge. While his family was grieving the loss of a remarkable man, Dobe was given one final opportunity to do what he had spent his life doing—give to others.
Dobe was a registered organ donor and with the help of Louisiana organ Procurement Agency(LOPA), Dobe’s story did not end when his life did. Instead, a part of his legacy was carried forward to people he would never meet. He was able to donate his Kidneys, and other valuable parts of him. His final act of generosity gave hope to others and allowed his life to continue making a difference.
Dobe became the oldest donor in the history of the state of Louisiana, a remarkable distinction that reflects the extraordinary kind of man he was. Even at 81 years old, his heart for helping others continued beyond his final breath.
For our family, his donation means so much more than a statistic or a record. It is a reflection of who Dobe was.
He served his country.
He served his community.
He loved his family.
And in the end, he continued to serve others by giving the gift of life.
We hope that sharing Dobe’s story will help other families understand the incredible impact that organ and tissue donation can have. In the midst of one of the hardest moments a family can face, there can still be a beautiful opportunity to give someone else hope.
Dobe spent 81 years leaving his mark on the people around him. His final gift ensures that his legacy will reach people and families he never had the chance to know.
We will always miss him. But we will also always be proud of him.
George “Dobe” Edward Clement, Jr. — Husband, Father figure, Godfather, Brother, Uncle, Veteran, Friend, and Donor.
His life was a gift.
And in the end, so was his goodbye.
