WILBUR D. “BOOTS” NESBIT
This quilt was constructed by Carmelitte Nesbit Venturella, Boots Nesbit’s daughter, as a replica of the wall quilt she made for him last Christmas. The original wall quilt also had squares depicting the growth of a tulip from the planting of the bulb, to the sprouting of leaves, and then to the blooming stage.
The tulips in this quilt represent the many tulips that her father planted and shared with others over the last 30 years of his life. Because of the three to six thousand tulips that he planted annually, Boots became lovingly known as the “Tulip Man”. His love of sharing himself through his beautiful tulips continues even after his death through his gift of sight.
