Abbeville native, Ryan Viator became a LOPA (Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency) hero on April 7, 2000 saving the lives of three strangers through organ donation. Seventeen years later, Ryan’s life continues to make an impact on his community. His family has dedicated their lives to ensuring Acadiana is better informed about the importance of organ and tissue donation. Ryan was a gym owner and avid “health junkie.” It’s only fitting to name LOPA’s run in honor of Ryan and his gifts of life.

LOPA is excited to host our 3rd Annual Ryan’s Run. Our 2017 5K Run/Walk will take place on Saturday April 8 at The Tap Room, 201 Settlers Trace Boulevard #4001, Lafayette. We need YOUR help to ensure Ryan’s Run is a huge success. Your participation/contribution will help support the families of our heroes and provide community education to Acadiana about the importance of organ and tissue donation.

In 2016, LOPA supported the families of 178 heroes who gave the gift of life to 583 individuals through transplant! Our community outreach efforts resulted in 84,879 people who said yes to donation by adding the heart to their driver’s license. With 2,000 Louisiana residents, and almost 120,000 people nationally, waiting on their life-saving transplant, our awareness efforts must continue. We invite you to help us celebrate our heroes and run for the lives of those waiting on their second chance at life.

Please share our run with your business and family. We are excited to try a new fundraising format with our race this year. It will give people an opportunity to donate beyond the race registration and/or to honor someone through a monetary donation. Feel free to start a team to raise money or register for the race. Top fundraisers will receive prizes. We look forward to seeing you on April 8!
