Dear Donor Family,

          As the mother of an organ and tissue donor, please allow me to share with you one of the ways I am surviving the death of my son, Justin. 

Over ten years ago, I made a phone call to LOPA to inquire about volunteering.  Since then, I have had the honor of sharing my son’s heroism with anyone who will listen.

There are almost 100,000 people depending on a grieving family to say yes to donation.  They need our help.  The task of spreading awareness is enormous.  Sometimes the best way to deliver a message is to hear it from someone who is ‘walking the walk’.  By volunteering, you may find the same comfort that I do.  Not only am I contributing to saving lives, but this work is also saving my life.  Volunteering gives me purpose – it gives me the opportunity to talk about Justin; to do something for him – it helps me breathe.

LOPA, in collaboration with Donate Life Louisiana, has many volunteer opportunities throughout the year.  Volunteers can share their story, help at information booths, answer questions, assist with many office tasks, join the Louisiana Organ and Tissue Donor Family Council, and reach out to the diverse population of this great state.
