LOPA Surpassed a Record in 2015

A record for LOPA, over 600 organs transplanted in 2015!

In the United States, organ transplants performed in 2015 exceeded 30,000 for the first time annually, according to preliminary data from the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN). This incredible milestone is possible only because of donors and their families who make the generous decision to share life through donation.

Currently more than 2.27 million Louisiana residents are registered as donors. The generosity of our state in 2015 led to over 600 life saving organ transplants, a record for Louisiana, and countless lives enhanced from over 400 tissue donors. Thank you to all those who said YES and gave hope to those waiting.

The number of people in need of transplants continues to outpace the number of organs donated. Nationally, more than 121,000* people are waiting for a transplant and a second chance at life. In Louisiana, more than 2,000* are waiting. On average, 22 people die each day in the United States because the organ they need is not donated in time. Registering your decision to become a donor is the most effective way to ensure you can save lives through donation and serves as sign of hope and support to those who continue to wait.

There are many ways to learn more about becoming an organ, eye and tissue donor.
