Community Outreach and Education
At LOPA, we strive to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to make his or her own decision about organ and tissue donation. Through our outreach, educational programs, and other grassroot efforts, we answer questions and dispel myths about donation. Our Community Educators and Multi-Cultural Outreach Coordinators provide free presentations to churches, schools, civic organizations, and corporations throughout the state. You may request a presentation for your upcoming event by e-mailing us at info@lopa.org or calling us at 800-521-GIVE.

This past April, we had the distinct pleasure of working with the James Redford Institute's Animaction Workshop as part of the Red Stick International Animation Festival in Baton Rouge. School-age children from across Louisiana worked with artists to use animation in expressing their feelings and sharing their stories about various social issues. This year, the focus was on organ donation and transplantation awareness. From the two-day workshop came four outstanding videos. - The Casa Olé Caliente 5K Run for Their Lives in Lafayette is coming April 12, 2008. We had a record number of registrants for this race last year, and many of them braved the rain for the run. Click here to see pictures taken at the event.
- Alexis' Angel Sale also will take place in April 2008. We are eternally grateful that the Porta family continues with this craft sale every year, in memory of their daughter and organ donor heroine Alexis Cole Porta. Patrons can shop for arts, crafts, plants, and other items, as well as take some time to donate blood.
